So, on 5th May this year, I pledged to lose 50lb in 50 weeks. Partly for a charitable cause (Connect, the charity I worked for, that supports people with aphasia), but partly also as a challenge to myself to finally get fitter and healthier. I figured by announcing it and making it sponsored, I wouldn’t be able to back down.
The first 4 months went really well - in 16 weeks, I lost 14lb, and was set to stay pretty much on track.
Then, I kind of fell off the wagon. Not spectacularly exactly - the one good thing about the past 4 months is that I’ve managed to maintain the weight I reached at the start of September, give or take a few fluctuations. But nothing lost since then. Lots seemed to happen - I was a bit depressed; a little bit abroad, a lot busy with finding and starting a new job, initially quite involved with Occupy, and a new volunteering role. Oh, and I joined twitter - but very little of it involved eating healthily, doing exercise, and losing weight.
So, with time ticking by, I realised I have just 16 weeks left to go. To lose 36lb. That’s very little time for quite a lot of weight. But I’m determined to do it.
Actually, I might add two weeks, both to make it a round year, but also to give myself a better chance of hitting my target. We’ll see.
Aaaaaanyways - I am climbing resolutely back on to the wagon. And not (just) because of New Year - time it is a-ticking, and this weight won’t lose itself.
Given my main problem is getting round to doing exercise, and feeling often too tired and busy, I have set myself this new sub-target: 30 minutes a day (whew - only took 7 pararaphs to get to the actual explanation!).
This blog will be a record of my daily attempt to do 30 minutes of exercise a day. For at least the next 16 (or possibly 18) weeks. It may become other things as well, but for now, that’s the aim.
30 minutes a day.
